That’s God
There was a science fair at a high school. And the teacher decided that he would give a demonstration for the kids that attended. He had a 5 gallon glass container. And in it he placed as many large rocks that would fit comfortably into the container. Then he asked the audience, is if full? And everyone said yes, it’s full. Then he placed as many medium sized rocks around all the big rocks that would fit. He asked, is it full? And everyone replied yes, it’s full. Then he placed a bunch of smaller pebbles in the jar until no more would fit. And he asked once more is it full? And again everyone replied, yes, it’s full. Lastly, he took sand and poured it in all the cracks filling the glass container to the top? At last he said now it’s full.
You know that container is a lot like our relationship with God. The Bible says “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” If we were to take that science experiment and put the sand in first, the small pebbles in second, the medium rocks in third, and the large rocks in last it wouldn’t work. When we put the smaller & less important things first in our lives, we seldom have any room left for God. But, when we put God first, all these things will find a place around him.
God wants to be the most important thing in our lives. And we can make him the most important priority simply by prioritizing. Instead of watching 3 hours of TV take 20 minutes and read your Bible. Instead of staying out all night on Saturday partying ask God to give you an alternative so you can get up and go to church on Sunday morning. Consult God with your finances, your relationships, your health, your career, your family and ask him to come into every situation. When we make God a priority in every situation, we have put him first in every department of our lives.
I think you will find that he will open up doors that didn’t exist before. And he will close some doors that don’t need to be opened. God has a plan for each and every one of us. And when we submit to his will, everything will fall into the right place. But when we put other things first we will always be searching for that something. That’s God.
